130 Workers Could Be Cut at Manufacturer
A South Devon-based manufacturer has begun consultation over the future of 130 staff. Employees at Torbay's Total Window Solutions have been warned that proposed changes to shift patterns could lead to up to 130 job cuts within the manufacturing workforce.
"Britain's finest publisher of countryside books" is the claim of Merlin Unwin Books of Ludlow, Shropshire and I must say their catalogue is brimming with interesting titles. If you love the countryside and its many facets then here are The Otter, The Hare; books by BB, books on kitchen and hedgerow medicine; on flyfishing, mushrooming, poaching, country cooking, pets, and many more rural subjects. Chris Yates' books on fishing, Edward Miller on wildfowling, and even a first full-colour photo...
Changing View of Royalty ; the Voice of the Westcountry
Will the marriage of Prince William and Kate Middleton - the first of the new generation of Royals to wed - create the same excitement as the wedding of William's parents, Prince Charles and Lady Diana Spencer almost 30 years ago? We doubt it. A great deal has changed in Britain since that fairytale marriage in 1981 and, inevitably, after the acrimonious and very public breakdown of that relationship, and the end of the first marriages of both Princess Anne and Prince Andrew, the way the publ...
Hard-Working Hackney Family Stars of the Show ; Last Night's Television Reviewed
I can still remember The Family, Paul Watson's groundbreaking 1974 documentary about the Wilkins family from Reading. I can recall the shock of experiencing a very different kind of life. It broke a lot of new ground, not least when daughter Heather was filmed in a bra and jeans washing her hair over the kitchen sink.
In high summer it is hard to imagine the orchard floor in anything other than deep shade. And in gentler autumns the leaves hang on well into November on many of the trees. But after the stormy weather last week all has been transformed. There is hardly a leaf left on the trees, letting the weak late autumn light pour into the orchard once more. The change is all the greater because a large old blackthorn tree, heavily covered with ivy, was brought down by the gale. It is often difficult to k...
Unsavoury Attitude to Women in the Church
As a practising Christian (of a sort) I have learned over a number of years that it is not my position in life to be the judge of any other man or woman. That is the privilege of my Lord. That, however, does not preclude me from making my own reasoned judgements and applying them to the people who are supposedly the leaders in the society in which I live for my own purpose.
Eu's 16-Year Failure to Balance Its Books
We are all expected to do our bit as we have done time after time to aid the recovery of our country. Why then, does the European Union, which uses our money on a regular basis, not feel obligated to balance their finances accordingly.
Arrest Warrants From Europe Are Unjust
Fair Trials International and the UK Independence Party, working independently, have identified a number of cases which demonstrate that the European Arrest Warrant system is causing serious injustice and jeopardising the right to a fair trial. Surrounding these cases there are a number of issues.
8,000 Claim Pounds 16.4m Is Owed by Collapsed Currency Firm
More than 8,000 people have filed credit claims totalling Pounds 16.4 million owed to them by collapsed financial firm Crown Currency Exchange. The former online currency exchange's joint administrators, MRC and SPW, said that proof of debt forms submitted by former Crown Currency Exchange (CCE) and Crown Holdings (London) customers have racked up to Pounds 16,483,644, since the firm's collapse in October.
