It's an American Tradition but I Think Halloween Is for All

Summary

My children are happily occupied making a Halloween tree. Yes, it's a bizarre mix of traditions. It's a bunch of curly-wurly willow branches stuck into a vase. From its twisty limbs are dangling bats and pumpkins cut out of card, and my favourite: Kleenex ghosts. I love making Kleenex ghosts. All you need is a box of tissue, cotton balls, little rubber bands and a black marker. You put a cotton ball in the middle of a tissue, bring together the corners, secure with rubber band (as if it were a collar under the cotton ball head) and draw two eyes and a ghostly "O" mouth. Voila! A little ghost. If you tie some black cotton thread at the back of its neck, you can dangle it from your Halloween tree, where it flutters ghostily (that's a new adverb I just made up. Take that, grammar check!).

I feel like I should do what I can to help people love Halloween in England.
