Summary
There is a general clamour for better equipment for our troops in Afghanistan and Iraq. This came to a crisis point when it was reported that the Paras were unable to use the ammunition provided for their heavy machine guns due to its poor quality. This is possibly the last straw in a disgraceful performance in the political management of defence procurement.
We have had reports over the years of manipulation in ordering more expensive and less capable vehicles from abroad, primarily to satisfy European unification at the expense of American co- operation. This has resulted in fatal casualties.See the full content of this document
