All this anti-English stupidity is now wearing a bit thin. The latest wailing and gnashing of teeth again spews from the far west of the county of Cornwall - why is it folk towards the east appear friendlier? - accusing their very own fishermen's singing group of treason.

I was watching the old goggle-box yesterday and heard a Scotsman interviewed on the forthcoming football tournament: he was in fine spirits and, having witnessed his national team fail to make the finals, seemed genuinely proud to be showing his allegiance to the English team.
