Weekend Thought MALC' HALLIDAY THE Church, seemingly, comes late to Christmas. Harrod's Christmas store opened in August (to be fair Santa waited until the beginning of November to turn up in his grotto). My supermarket was selling mince pies in September. In the same month a restaurant nearby was advertising "Seasonal meals now available".
Recently the trickle of magazines and catalogues urging us to shop from the comfort of our own homes has become a flood. An Exeter family decorated their home, putting up their tree two months ago, because they wanted their baby daughter to "be prepared". I hope it was an artificial tree.
