Beckett: 'Too Busy' to Meet Farmers

Former Defra Secretary Margaret Beckett last night said she had been "too busy" to visit Westcountry farmers while she was in office.

Now Foreign Secretary, Mrs Beckett - who was in charge of the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs for five years - said on a visit to Plymouth she could not recall how many times she visited the region during her stint as leader, but admitted that it had been "not all that many" because of her "very heavy travel schedule".
