THE spirit, professionalism and tenacity I see in women entrepreneurs all across the UK never ceases to amaze me, and many of the women I work with continue to be an inspiration for so many. Overcoming the numerous barriers women have to face in business should never be underestimated, yet thousands of women decide to take that leap of faith and start their own businesses every year.

It is true that the business landscape in Cornwall and Devon has evolved substantially over the last 20 years, with more businesses owned and run by women - but what has driven this change? What makes a woman with ambitions to work for herself actually take the leap and open her own business? And why now, especially in the South West - an area not renowned for enjoying the benefits of the boom and buzz of the city.
