On a hilltop north of Princetown, between the Rivers Walkham and Cowsic, Dartmoor National Park Authority, with Natural England and the Environment Agency, has installed 200 timber and turf dams on old peat-cutting ditches without consulting the graziers who have managed this landscape for thousands of years. The intention is for some 600 water-filled dams here, and to treat other areas of the moor in a similar way.
