A major auction of beef cattle in the Westcountry has been postponed because one of the animals up for sale has reacted inconclusively to a bovine TB test.

News that the sale of the Flete Herd of South Devons had been called off came as national figures were released showing a 19 per cent rise in the number of cattle slaughtered as a result of tests during the first quarter of this year, compared to the same time last year.
