Summary

Your report that the challenge by Dr David Halpin to David Kelly's inquest has ended in failure (WMN Dec 20), is another depressing indictment of our present government's outright dishonesty. As the comments in your letters pages from Roderick Harrison (Sept 12) and Anna Gunning (Dec 14), amply explain, there are any number of reasons why Dr Halpin's case should have been granted. That it is again refused only makes it seem even more likely that a big cover-up was put in place, leading after all this time to the belief that Dr Kelly may have been murdered, rather than that he committed suicide as the government insists. What goes with our government? Other 'scandals' include: Conning us into the EU against our wishes Refusing to have the referendum that everybody wants on whether we should stay in or get out of it Refusing to give the nuclear veterans compensation for the damage done to their health by forcing them to take part in tests in the Pacific islands in the 1960s Refusing to stage another referendum on whether we should renew the death penalty for serious crime Refusing to give compensation (after 50 years) to the Chagos Islanders for having turfed them out of their island so as to turn it over to being an American war base, Protecting the tax havens for the rich when they should have been prosecuting them Supposedly reining in the banks and getting the taxpayers' money restored to them - but failing.

Failing to stop illegal immigration and control legal immigration when the resources of the country are bursting at the seams already. Taking schools, housing, water supply and the NHS into crisis...and so on, ad nauseam.
