Summary


T he birth of St Ives as an art colony is celebrated in style at Tate, St Ives. How well the management stages its shows. This is an exhibition reeking of history, curated by David Tovey, the St Ives historian. Virginia Woolf would have enjoyed it. She had a spell in the town, inspired by Godrevy Light.

Painters such as Emile-Louis Vernier encouraged others to make St Ives their destination. So Dawn of a Colony, Picturing the West, St Ives 1811-1888, recalls a pioneering age.
