Summary
Talks are under way in a bid to bring Britain's first large biometric fingerprint scanning project to a Westcountry city. Bar owners and police in Plymouth are in negotiations with two firms about installing a system which would mean people can only enter clubs if their fingerprints are scanned and details taken. Anyone banned from a pub or club would be unable to enter any others fitted with the technology. Police think it could have a major impact on cutting levels of violent disorder and underage drinking.
A WESTCOUNTRY theatre company is offering budding directors a chance to learn from the experts during a special workshop series. Dartington Playgoers, based near Totnes, is holding a series of one- day theatre workshops about the art of directing. Admission is pounds15 for all three workshops, which will run from 10am to 4pm, including a break for lunch. They take place on March 10, 17 and 24 but spaces are limited and will be allocated on a first-come, first- served basis.
