Cornwall survived a terrible opening spell to achieve a hard- fought first-innings total of 331 for six before leaving Wiltshire on 36 for five at the end of day one in their Minor Counties Championship match at Corsham yesterday.

Werrington's Alex Smeeth (79), on his Championship debut, and former Grampound Road captain Chris Hunkin (76) knocked Cornwall into shape after they lost four early wickets, before Martin Pearce and Martin Jenkin rounded off the innings in style with 101 in 17 overs after tea.
