Summary


There is nothing wrong with demanding local authorities in future work harder on behalf of the communities they serve and deliver-up services that are at least the equal of those they currently provide for less cost. After all, private businesses are charged with doing that on a daily basis when times are hard.

But there comes a point when the cuts get so deep that any hope of maintaining a quality service can no longer be sustained, however imaginative and creative local authority staff and councillors might be and however far 'out of the box' they try to think.
