It is reported by the head of GCHQ that major cyber attacks on British electronic information now top 1,000 a month and rising. We all know that electronic fraud in all its forms is a growing menace to the very fabric of modern society. Like it or not, online this and that has become important. Internet messaging and information is vital to many, public services including military networking are also vital; even the operating systems of power utilities can be attacked.

We need our Government, in partnership with others, to enact legislative standards to ensure that data crimes are chased as relentlessly as other grade one crimes. There needs to be an electronic communications authority with powers to act at home and across borders in partnership with others.
