A debt-ridden former dentist who faked his own death so his family could claim Pounds 1.8 million in life insurance was yesterday jailed for five years.

Neil McClaren, who worked in Barnstaple for six years, claimed he had been trying to evade his family who were trying to kill him because he had converted from Islam to Christianity.
