Discarded Cigarette Ends a Risk to Wildlife

Summary


As the smoking ban comes into force, the National Marine Aquarium would like to raise awareness of the damage caused to wildlife, including many types of marine life, by cigarette butts discarded on our streets, watersides and beaches.

Experts expect to see an increase in cigarette litter as smokers are forced outside to light up - and since many of the butts dropped will end up in the sea, it could be a major problem unless bins are supplied for smokers to extinguish and dispose of their cigarette ends properly.
