Summary


When Robert Lenkiewicz died in 2002 it was only to be expected there would be considerable interest in the work he left behind, especially considering he had always courted publicity both good and bad. On one occasion he even attempted to suggest he had died, and disappeared for a while, only to reappear and admit it had all been a hoax.

He was pre-occupied with social misfits and other unfortunates, believing he could communicate with them and help while telling their story through portraiture. But if this was intended to prick our collective consciences it failed as not many collectors would enjoy living with a down-and-out figure study, worked rapidly and sparsely on a canvas that didn't really seem complete.
