David Willets's letter (WMN Dec 9 ) omitted that the absurd student tuition fees of up to Pounds 9,000 p.a are to be inflicted on England's students only.

His letter suggested that such radical changes apply throughout this now Disunited Kingdom when nothing is further from the truth "Fairness" is his recurring theme but what's fair about England's students paying up to Pounds 9,000 whilst middle England taxpayers have to Barnett subsidise "scot-free" students in rest of UK (and other EU students)? Due to the 1999 devolution the coalition Government has authority only in England on matters devolved so it is able to inflict such financial oppression only on England's inhabitants.
