Summary
One of the most famous artists of postcards depicting flowers, fruit, birds, still life, etc, was Prussianborn Catherina (Christina) Klein (b: 1861). Her art training was comprehensive as she studied in Berlin, Dresden and Munich and when she came to the notice of publishers in the rest of Europe, one of the fastest to respond was Raphael Tuck in this country, a company begun by a Russian-born emigre.
Bright and fresh, her designs were reproduced in Painting Books with unpainted, perforated postcards inside and so varied and extensive was her work, she was widely copied and pirated. Depending on condition, these delightful postcards are remarkably reasonable, costing as little as Pounds 1 but those with perforations cost anything from Pounds 5 and Pounds 10 each at today's Exeter Postcard Fair in Clyst Vale Community College, Broadclyst.See the full content of this document
