Falklands Medal Sells for Pounds48,000

Summary

A military medal for gallantry won by a Falklands war hero has sold at auction for pounds48,000 - a new record. Veteran Sgt Tim Collins, 56, had kept his medals in a drawer and decided to sell them so his children wouldn't argue over them after his death. As well as the Falklands medal, three other military awards and a pencil drawing of Sgt Collins and his team on the Falklands were also auctioned. Richard Bromell from Charterhouse auctioneers in Sherborne, West Dorset, which sold the lot said: "This is a new record. A military medal from a serviceman at Goose Green has sold for pounds39,000, but this went for more."

SALES of Tamar Bridge and Torpoint Ferry paper vouchers, for drivers to cross the River Tamar from Cornwall into Devon, could end in December. Tamar Bridge and Ferry manager David List told the joint committee controlling the two crossings that journeys using the electronic TamarTags were running at more than 50 per cent during the 7am-9am rush hour on the bridge. The waiting time to receive a tag is down to six weeks.
