We are supposed to live in enlightened times, with new and different thinking about such things as social standing - that's "class" for the uninitiated - and stereotype attitudes. So I was surprised you printed the rather snide comment (WMN Jan 14) in the website comments section about the farmer buying a new Land Rover and the cost of fuel.

It would appear from the comment that the writer thinks only town dwellers should have new cars or 4 x 4's, and people who live and work in the countryside should all walk or go around driving clapped out bangers as they aren't supposed to have new vehicles.
