The birds are the noisiest thing around here, says Trisha Stewart as she stands in the natural green hollow that's part of her 12- acre domain. Well, yes, there are some daredevil swallows squeaking and scything the sky over our heads; there's the distant shriek of an unseen buzzard; a persistent house martin dynasty has yet again nested beneath new guttering; big blond German shepherd dog Taz follows us round, but I haven't heard him bark yet.

It's certainly peaceful here. "But I love the fact that Exeter's only 10 miles away," says Trisha.
