Summary
Martin Hesp wrote of sailing, on the tallest ship, through the Malacca Straits with nothing to do but watch the flying fish. The Straits were not always thus. Before the Second World War the area was notorious for the activities of pirates. The mangrove swamps which skirted the coast of Malaysia had a myriad creeks, most of which could hide a pirate vessel from authorities.
