Fishermen Benefit As Sales of Scallops Soar

Summary


SCALLOPS have defied the tide of recession, seeing a 16 per cent rise in consumption over the past year. Despite their image as a luxury food, British shoppers are increasingly buying the shellfish, and spent Pounds 10 million on 425 tonnes of fresh scallops over the past 12 months.

The figures have been released by Seafish, which says research indicates that 44 per cent of British consumers associates eating seafood with the summer months.
