Thousands lined the streets of Barnstaple yesterday to officially welcome back Chivenor troops from a sixmonth tour of Afghanistan. The homecoming parade saw about 500 servicemen and women march through the town, met with hundreds of waving Union flags and led triumphantly by the Band of the Royal Marines.
The troops, who are all part of the Commando Logistic Regiment, finished their parade by saluting Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, who stood on a dais in full combat battledress.
