A decomposed body has been found in undergrowth next to a busy town centre road.

The grisly discovery was made at about 1pm yesterday in bushes on Bear Street, Barnstaple. Police last night said they were treating the death as "unexplained". They also said it was not known how long the body had been there, but one resident left a message on a website which read: "The smell from these bushes in the summer was horrendous. It makes my blood run cold to think that I pass there every day."
