French wines are proving more and more popular with younger drinkers in Britain, according to a new survey conducted among consumers aged 20 to 25. This is good news for all of us, whatever age we are, because if the recent trend away from the infinite variety of French and other European wines to the bog-standard brands of Australia and California continues, there will soon be very little choice left for any us, other than between Jacob's Creek or Blossom Hill.
But who says the young are suddenly so keen on "old world" wines? The survey was commissioned by Vinexpo, a Bordeaux-based wine fair company, and therefore not perhaps a neutral observer. But the research has been endorsed by the country's biggest wine merchant.See the full content of this document
