Summary


I'VE developed a gym phobia. It's not that I cower on the street every time I pass a fitness institution or throw bread rolls at joggers, but I honestly can't make myself participate in early morning exercise sessions involving bright lights and MTV. It began to creep into my psyche about three weeks ago. I noticed my enthusiasm for the rowing machine waning and I was starting to resent the small and finely honed gym bunnies hopping on to the cross trainer with immaculate nails, barely breaking a sweat.

Running in the spooky early morning mist seemed preferable. I mention this because it seems everyone goes through phases of attending the gym regularly reaping the rewards of a monthly direct debit with slightly smaller bums and trimmer tummies. Then come the weeks when, no matter how hard you try, going to the gym seems like a real chore.
