Summary
The famous Bere Apple Fest will take place in Bere Ferrers Church Hall tomorrow. The festival, which will start at 1.30pm and go on until 5pm, will feature experts, demonstrations and a chance for visitors to bring along their own apples and turn them into juice. Apple products - such as cakes, pies, sauces and Bere toffee apples - will be on sale. There will also be an apple pie baking competition, the longest apple peel contest and apple-crushing demonstrations. Proceeds from the event will go towards maintaining a children's playground area in Bere Ferrers Recreation Field and the funds of the Bere Ferrers Villagers' Group.GRANTS are up for grabs for schemes to encourage people to be more active in the Mid and West Devon areas. The grants are being offered by the 5X30 project which promotes the World Health Organisation's target that everybody should aim to do 30 minutes of moderate physical activity five times a week. The scheme was offering grants of up to pounds150, but this has now been increased to pounds500. The grants can cover up to 80 per cent of the total cost of a project. A WOMAN famous for her ability to communicate with dogs will be appearing in Wadebridge, North Cornwall, later this month. Jan Fennell, who has published five books and had a series on Channel Five call The Dog Listener, is giving a lecture on canine communication at Wadebridge Town Hall on Wednesday, October 25, at 7pm.
