Summary
The National Health Service is not a happy place of work for hundreds of thousands of staff right now. Under attack - sometimes literally - from patients, crushed by overwork and bowed down by Government-imposed red tape and constant pressure to hit targets, many must wonder quite why they ever decided to join the caring professions in the first place.
If they had been in an ordinary job, many would have left. Instead they are staging a series of protests this weekend to underline their frustration. They want to draw attention to the cuts in jobs and services being imposed upon the NHS by a Government that has made balancing the health service books an absolute priority - whatever the impact on patients and staff.
