We continually hear from this coalition Government that the deficit was the result of Labour's overspending. The global financial crisis, it seems, never occurred and with the banks again it was the result of Labour's failure to regulate them effectively.

Now I know that Labour was not a resounding success in its 13- year tenor, but major public facilities like the NHS and education were vastly improved after many Tory years of neglect.
