I'VE never been much of a winter fan and this one certainly hasn't done anything to make me change my mind. I'm sure everyone with horses to look after has had a bit of a nightmare over the past month and we've certainly been no exception. With all the young stock off the farm and in barns, we've had nearly 60 horses in this winter. This was not too bad until all the water pipes froze - lugging buckets for 60 from the house kept us fairly fit and out of too much mischief for the first two weeks of 2010!

My working pupils probably appreciated the snow more than I did. Once the horses were finished in the morning they spent the whole day sledging Warren Farm style (a car bonnet tied to the back of the Kawasaki Mule). Several snowmen appeared around the arena and one of our more artistic residents also masterminded the construction of a very fine life-size snow pony.
