Summary
IN this country there are about 400 breeds of dogs that fall into six general categories, namely hounds, gundogs, terriers, utility, working and toys. Furthermore, all except for the last earn their keep in some way or another, though even the tinies can claim this if guarding the home is included, or being a faithful companion through thick and thin.
They almost certainly deserve the title of Man's Best Friend and have provided endless subjects for artists over the years. Those used for postcards were often copies of famous paintings, drawn by proficient graphic artists for a specialist market, though some were photographic cards showing the animals wearing clothes. These exhibits are not as popular now, being considered demeaning, though at the time of the vaudeville theatre such working dogs would have been used for such silly capers.See the full content of this document
