Plans to build a hydro-electric power system on the Severn Estuary should be reconsidered because of "serious flaws" in statistics which show how well they work, environmentalists have demanded.

The coalition of environmental groups, which includes the RSPB and the National Trust, is concerned the process of short-listing was biased against schemes which were innovative and could cause less harm to the estuary's wildlife, ecology and landscape.
