Rural post offices in the Westcountry are under great threat of closure because Labour Cabinet ministers are campaigning to save branches in their own constituencies, it was claimed last night.

With a hitlist being drawn up for 60 stores to close in Devon this spring and communities in Cornwall forced to wait until June to find out how they will be hit by the cost-cutting plans, it has emerged seven members of the Cabinet publicly opposed closures on their own doorstep.
