Summary


ONE of my earliest television memories is of the Pingwings, odd little knitted penguins who lived on a farm. Mrs Pingwing and her daughter, Penny, wore aprons - that's how you knew they were girls. Mr Pingwing and the baby had no clothes at all, but son Paul wore a school cap like my brother's. They were filmed in black and white, getting up to all kinds of adventures in their barn.

As an imaginative toddler, I thought these strange creatures were as real as my cat Tinkerbell. They appeared like magic every now and then from a secret land inside the TV set, and I adored them.
