Judge Rejects Stewardess's Claim for Pounds150,000 Damages

Summary

A former British Airways stewardess whose career was wrecked by a freak episode of air turbulence - the ferocity of which hurled her against the cabin ceiling - has had her pounds150,000 damages claim dismissed in London's High Court.

Susan Andrews, 52, from Treverbyn, St Austell, Cornwall, had to give up her cherished 30-year career with BA after breaking her ankle and injuring her cervical spine in the July 2003 incident, which occurred as the BA 777 jet was approaching Chicago airport en route from Houston. The co-pilot, who was at the controls at the time of the incident, described the jolt which buffeted the plane as the worst episode of air turbulence he had ever experienced, testifying in court that it "blew my socks off".
