Summary
It was sad to read the obituary written for Brendon O'Reagan recently, but the comments did not give a complete understanding of this remarkable man, with whom I worked closely in 1944 during my somewhat involuntary period as BOAC's operations superintendent at the flying boat station at Foyes on the Shannon, across the water from what was then known as Rineanna but which became Shannon Airport - of which Brendon was a keen builder.
It became obvious to him that as an airport alone Shannon would not be viable in the long run. So duty-free industrial estates were built on and around it and Japanese and American companies soon took advantage of the ability to assemble goods in this Customs-free area.See the full content of this document
