Kemmyn Supporters Reject Compromise Proposal

The attempt by the Cornish Language Partnership to find a single written form for the language "acceptable to everyone" appears to be in danger of running on to the rocks, writes Thomas Stevens.

At the meeting of the Cornish Language Partnership, Dr Ken George said of the statement by the Commission on the Cornish Language: "In their attempts to please everyone, or at least to displease no one, the commission have failed to nominate an existing orthography as the single written form. The commission's job was to find the best spelling system for use in schools and the public sector. It was not to find a compromise spelling which might (and then might not) heal a perceived split in the language movement. The two are not the same thing."
