Donald Rawe is being a bit mischievous (WMN Letters Feb 25). I understand perfectly well the symbolic importance of the River Tamar to Cornish people, I just don't think a cross border "Devonwall" parliamentary constituency will ever change this and the "Keep Cornwall Whole" campaign was not only misconceived but ultimately failed.
It was run by party politicians who tried to whip up a bit of nationalism but couldn't persuade Cornish people to turn out in sufficient numbers to register in Whitehall. It's the political agitator's first rule - don't announce a public protest unless you can be sure of a large turnout because a small one will kill your campaign stone dead, as it did in this case.See the full content of this document
