Summary


There have been 52 British fatalities in Afghanistan since the start of operations in November 2001. Of those 13 had Westcountry connections.

1) March 8, 2007 - Sgt Maj Michael Smith, 39, from Liverpool, serving with 29 Commando Regiment Royal Artillery, based in the Citadel, Plymouth - killed in a grenade attack at Sangin, Helmand Province.
