John Sheaves is a man ideally suited to his role as a champion of the Westcountry's food producers in its broadest interpretation. At a time when social and environmental factors are deemed to be as important, if not more so, than the economics of food production, his experience prior to becoming Taste of the West's chief executive in 2004 gives him an almost unique overview of those issues and the possible solutions.
He grew up on a small dairy farm in East Devon, and started farming in his early twenties, producing high quality outdoor pork and lamb, and working as a farm contractor.
