Majolica a Hit at Great Exhibition

Summary


Majolica is a generic term for a group of richly modelled and generously glazed earthenwares in thick, almost aspic-like glazes pioneered in this country by Mintons.

They launched this new range of ceramics at the Great Exhibition in 1851, where they were a great hit with everyone - especially rival potteries, who rapidly copied this idea to produce their own ranges.
