HAVING witnessed the closure of the roads through and around West Buckland on Friday, August 7 - a disruption accepted without question by all involved in the funeral service of Guardsman Christopher King, a Coldstreamer aged 20 who had given his life struggling to provide "law and order" for those in Afghanistan - I totally support the call by Stephen Otter, Chief Constable of Devon and Cornwall, for the Home Office to ensure the required financial support for his force so that he can continue to provide ordinary citizens with the safeguard of more "bobbies on the beat".
The Chief Constable urged all Devon and Cornwall citizens to write to their MPs expressing support for his case, as he cannot achieve the more instant and rapid reaction by police to our telephone calls or verbal pleas for help unless the Government's sense of priorities is adjusted.See the full content of this document
