In my natural history collection of bits and pieces that interest me are a few mammal skulls including badger and fox. Basically, a mammal's skull is just a strong, bony box which supports the main sense organs, ears, nose and eyes. It also protects the brain and provides a form anchorage for the lower jaw.

The varying shapes of mammal skulls depends to an extent on the animals lifestyle. What it eats, which of its senses are most important, ears, eyes or nose. The cranium protects the brain which processes the messages from the sense organs and the remainder of the skull is made up of the face which contains these.
