Man Convicted of Fishing Rare Elvers

A Bridgwater man has been ordered to pay Pounds 850 and handed an 18-month ban after being convicted of illegally fishing for valuable and endangered baby eels.

David Smith, of Westwood Road, denied using oversize nets to catch the prized elver, which can fetch up to Pounds 180 per kilo, on the River Parrett last year.
