Mandela Met with the Man Who Demanded His Death

Summary

When the leader of a minor African tribe named his son "Rolihlahla" he had little idea of the prophetic insight in the name. It means "one who causes trouble for himself ". That son grew up to be known across the world as Nelson Mandela.

In his search for justice in South Africa he found himself imprisoned for 27 years. The prosecutor at his trial went far beyond what was necessary as he vilified Mandela, seeking to destroy his character. In prison he was denied permission to attend the funerals of both his mother and eldest son. Even the most cursory study of his life would lead one to believe that here was a man entitled to feel bitterness and resentment to all those who had opposed and undermined him. Yet on his release from prison what did he do? He continued working for what he had argued for throughout his prison confinement: the bringing together of all South Africans regardless of their colour. He even met with the prosecutor who decades before had argued that not only should Mandela be imprisoned but should face the death sentence.
