Summary
According to Fiona Hall, the North East Liberal Democrat MEP (and member of the African Caribbean Pacific-EU Joint Parliamentary Assembly), "everybody laughs when they hear it's in Barbados", "it" being a five-day trip to the Caribbean costing taxpayers more than pounds200,000. MEPs will be "slumming it" in the Colony Club, located in seven acres of palm-filled gardens on a glorious stretch of Caribbean beach. Normal rates range from 357 to 657 a night.
The trip to discuss water shortages, aid and African Caribbean Pacific-EU trade policies kicks off with a cruise aboard a ship reported to have the longest floating bar in the Caribbean. Workshops include one on the rum industry. MEPs will be receiving a goody bag containing rum and other Bajan specialities.See the full content of this document
