Summary
The MoD issued the following statement in response to the points raised by the WMN's report.
Service personnel were certainly not the subject of nuclear tests (ie "guinea pigs"). They were only involved in the tests to provide logistic support (mainly construction work). Formal and well- documented procedures were in place to ensure the health and safety of those who were involved. Consequently, the majority of participants received little or no additional radiation exposure as a result of participation. There is no evidence of excess illness or mortality among nuclear test veterans as a group which could be linked to their participation in the tests or to exposure to radiation as a result of that participation.See the full content of this document
